Dr. Lajpatrai Mehra has over five decades of experience in Neurotherapy
Rich businessmen, film stars and even ministers come to Dr Lajpatrai Mehra, when all other systems of treatment fail. My chronic intestinal problem led me to his clinic at Bandra in Mumbai some years ago and miraculously. I felt, my problem disappeared under his ministrations.
Mehra doesn’t claim to perform any miracles though. He says he practices a scientific system called Neurotherapy. A businessman-turned-doctor who cures patients by applying pressure on their body with his feet, thereby activating the glands, nerves and hormones responsible for causing their illness.
Neurotherapy, if understood properly, can be a panacea for many diseases. It is based on the fact that the human body is the best manufacturer of various chemicals, hormones and enzymes, with the brain being the computer guiding them. “Neurotherapy is a system that activates the nerves and glands, which, in turn, produce hormones. The human laboratory not only looks after the supply of blood, but also automatically produces all sorts of chemicals like salts, alkalines, acids, etc.” he says.
Mehra explains that our body is a huge chemical factory, which produces internally all the chemicals that allopathic medicine administers from outside. “In Neurotherapy, we activate those functions of the body that have become sluggish. And the body itself cures the illness. When a certain substance is not needed, the body will automatically stop producing it. It becomes its own monitor,” he adds.

An example of a chemical that the body produces is Heparin, a drug that is injected into the body for a number of diseases. “When a disease comes up, it only means that a particular organ of the body is not functioning properly and with the help of Neurotherapy, the system can be made to start working,” says Mehra.
Neurotherapy involves stimulating the nerves, glands such as the thyroid, the endocrine, the pancreas and the thymus, as well as other organs of the body like the liver, spleen and regulating the blood supply to the various parts of the body.
Mehra says his original study of Neurotherapy has its roots in the ancient Indian system of treatment. The dislocation of the navel was considered to be the root cause of all digestive disorders by ancient Indian doctors. And one of the methods used to reset the dislocated navel was to manipulate with the feet.
Mehra is not a qualified doctor in the strict sense of the word. However, he has established a reputation in his own right over the 56 years in which he has been practising Neurotherapy. Born on August 23, 1932, and with a Matriculation degree from Amritsar, Mehra was a successful businessman in Mumbai before turning full-time to medical practice in 1986.
Mehra was introduced to Neurotherapy when a house nurse reset his navel with his feet to relieve him of an acute stomach ache. He was fascinated by the novel treatment and decided to learn it for himself. After the death of his daughter due to a heart ailment, his desire to learn Neurotherapy was further intensified. Each ailment was a challenge and he began treating patients free of cost.
When people who benefited from his treatment told him of their desire to learn Neurotherapy, Mehra started his theory classes. “If there was something secretive about my treatment, I would not have shared my knowledge with anybody,” he says. “I am willing to teach anybody who wants to learn. All that is required from a student is dedication.” Sixteen batches of students have already completed their course with him.
The medium of instruction for Mehra’s course is Hindi and English. Mehra has also published a book on Neurotherapy; a second one will be out soon.
Mehra’s long cherished project, a free residential hospital at Suryamal, a health resort near Mumbai, has been completed recently. Now he is working on plans to start a college to teach Neurotherapy by August this year.
